On 9 October, in Brussels, The Council of the Notariats of the European Union concluded its European project on cross-border mediation co-financed by the European Commission.
In this framework, international workshops were organized in the first half of 2018 with notaries from several countries: it was a question of solving practical cases of cross-border disputes. For example: family conflicts in two countries, conflicts of companies providing benefits abroad, etc.
The French notariat had been involved in a France-Poland workshop and in a France-Belgium-Netherlands workshop. As part of this project, a practical guide for cross-border mediation has been drafted.
Mr. Georg Haibach, representative of the Directorate General Justice at the European Commission invited the notaires to actively pursue this path. Throughout Europe, using mediation helps to relieve the courts and allows the parties to conflict to find, within a reasonable time, an amicable solution to their disputes.
Mr Rimantas Simatis, representative of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg presented the toolbox for the development of Mediation. For two years now, the Council of Europe has had a very proactive policy on the subject.
